Draper in Utah County
Draper is a city that's partially located in Utah County and Salt Lake County. It is a large suburban community located along interstate 15, about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City and surrounded by the Wasatch Mountains.
According to the United States Census Bureau of 2000, Draper has a population of more than 25,000 people. The city has a total area of 30.3 square miles with a population density of over 800 people per square mile. It is located at high altitudes of over 4,500 feet above sea level.
The racial demographics of Draper are 91.25% White, 1.52% African American, 0.75% Native American, 1.30% Asian, 0.36% Pacific Islander, 2.71% from other races, and 2.10% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race are 5.82% of the population.
Draper has more than 6,000 households, many of them affluent. The median income for a household in the city is $72,341, and the median income for a family is $76,858.
Draper has significant activity from major businesses. The city s home to the customer service center of E-commerce giant eBay, the tech call center of computer software company PGP Corporation, the call center of music retailer Musician's Friend, and the headquarters of 1-800 Contacts, a contact lens retailer. Additionally, Draper is home to the first Ikea (home products retailer) of Utah.
In 2006, the 57,000 square foot Draper Utah Temple broke ground and will become the 129th temple of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when its officially dedicated in spring of 2009.
There are multiple recreation facilities and parks in Draper including South Mountain Golf Course, Hidden Valley Golf Course, Draper City Park, East Ridge Park, Wetlands Park, and Andy Ballard Equestrian Center.
The downtown area of the city is located at Draper Peaks, which is the main shopping district.
Draper is home to Utah State Prison, which has housed several notorious inmates including Gary Gilmore and Ted Bundy.
Utah County is located in northern Utah and is surrounded by six other counties of Tooele, Wasatch, Juab, Sanpete, Carbon, and Duchesne. Although Utah County lies about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, the county is not part of the Salt Lake City Metropolitan Area. Rather, Utah County forms the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area, which makes the county a major center of business, culture, education, shopping, and recreation in the state of Utah.
Most of the residential communities of Utah County are located in Utah Valley, an area east of Utah Lake and west of the Wasatch Mountains. This Utah Valley region consists of rapidly growing suburban communities in a scenic environment. The areas west of Utah Lake are mostly rural, but include several growing communities surrounded by Lake Mountains and Oquirrh Mountains. Many of Utah County's communities are located at high altitudes of several thousand feet above sea level. One of the most famous mountains in the county is the beautiful Mount Timpanogos, overlooking many of the suburban communities. Interstate 15 cuts right through the Utah Valley, allowing convenient road access for most of the county's communities locally, as well as up north to Salt Lake City.
Utah County paints the image of a modern and rapidly growing suburban communities, with an array of new homes, parks, schools, recreational facilities, businesses, infrastructures, and much more. The light colored buildings surrounded by green foliage, mountains and Utah Lake create a stunning atmosphere that's present through most of Utah County.

Utah County is home to more than 35 total communities, many of them cities and towns, with some unincorporated areas. The county seat is Provo, the largest city in the county and third largest city in Utah with a population of over 117,000 people. Additional large cities in Utah County include Orem, the sixth largest city in the state of Utah with over 84,000 residents.
The most notable geographical feature of Utah County is Utah Lake, largest natural freshwater lake in Utah covering 96,900 total acres right in the middle of the county. Utah Lake is a major recreational area in the county, offering water sports, including boating, sailing, water skiing, and fishing. The main marina for Utah Lake is located in Utah Lake State Park.
Additionally Utah County offers excellent recreational opportunities with hundreds of new city and town parks, and dozens of world class golf courses with pro shops, club houses, driving ranges, all in a scenic environment.
